3/3/25
We have arrived in Mosgiel, our house-sitting place, and the weather is beautiful for humans and Gnomes. It has been a real family weekend for His Lordship. He has seen many relatives; some he knew, and others didn't. Of course, I was left at home with Tabitha, the cat. She hasn't been around a lot; I guess it is because it is so hot here. All that long fur she has must slow her down and find a shady spot under the bushes outside.
This place was like Piccadilly Station. We had his brother and his wife stay, and another brother and his wife popped in a couple of times. Now, this young lady came a cropper at a pit stop on the way down, splitting her lip and injuring her hand. The Mistress assisted with some repairs, and first aid was required. The poor lady felt self-conscious about wearing a dressing on her lip, but it was messy and needed a cover.
These brothers all missed not having the other two down here, too. One is in Australia and will be married soon; the other is farm-sitting at this time of year.
His Lordship's other knee is bothering him again. He limps around here seeking attention, and His Mistress suggests medication or stopping moaning. Gee, she's a tough old bird sometimes. He phoned up home and got some at the local chemist.
The resident cat was funny last night. She jumped up on the human bed for a pat and smooch when all was quiet. This cat gets more attention than me. I shall have to complain, but this could get me nowhere. She does really miss not having a resident cat at home. By the looks of things, it might never happen again.
Today, the Mistress keeps kicking me off here, and I am having trouble getting the job done. This irritates me immensely, but no point in complaining as it never gets me anywhere.
The cat and I are best mates when she is in the mood, but being a female, they are temperamental, so everything is on her terms. Being a mere Gnome in this very human world is a tough life. I am told I should be grateful that I am having this holiday too. My mates had to stay home as they couldn't fit in the car. I do wonder what mischief they are getting up to at home.
Wondering around this house while they sleep is a mission, as there are so many doors and routes to take that I get dizzy just thinking about it. The lady visitor we had, too, couldn't get her head around it either. For a Gnome, it is a fair hike down that passageway. I tip-toed around to not wake the humans and to check where the cat sleeps. So far, I haven't found this place. She is always inside, too, as her owner says to keep her in overnight. She demands to be released at the first steps from His Lordship around five or six A.M. Another day begins for most, but the Mistress likes to sleep a little longer. She is good at this, too!
