23/3/25 It was a peaceful day here for me as the humans went out in separate cars. She left early for the Leeston market and met her friend from Christchurch there. Of course, it was golf day, so we know where he went. The Mistress enjoys the markets around the place.  Coming home with her treasures always causes a stir in her darling's department. He assisted her in getting them out of the car. He does recall seeing them with her recently. Now they are in the best spot. I had to look twice to see what they were. Oregon Mushrooms These are huge. She told me there were bigger ones, too, but they had more enormous price tags. They do stink, though, so I am not hanging around. The maker sealed them as they are oily, too. They look impressive. I shall spread the word.  24/3/25 She wishes to attend another market next weekend, further away, and he is playing all weekend. Let's hope the weather is fine, or there is no point in going to Rangiora. My mates and I have been ...
21/3/25 The humans are on the ball today. Outside , the Caravan got a wash, which frightened the living daylights out of me. I was reading my book and minding my business when an elephant walked over the caravan roof with a hose and a brush. Then, the outside walls got done, too. His Lordship complained of getting wet, and she should have seen this. He was far from impressed.  Then they started cleaning the inside windows. It's just as well she left the hose outside!  I no longer have to look between the spots to see now!  I have enjoyed catching up with my mates from our visit down south. I had so much to tell them. These discussions occur when the coast is clear, usually when the humans sleep. I also got to meet the resident Gnomes, all three of them, and I could teach them stuff they didn't know about. The humans they live with are busy most of the time. They told me about the grandchildren who sometimes visit. Sometimes, they are very loud, taking awa...

When trying to communicate

19/3/25 Until recently, I was allowed to use this computer. I have fought for days to get on here, and the answer has always been NO. This reaction does not make for a happy Chappie. She has a code on this thing to stop me from accessing it. Now, as I understand this behavior, The Mistress is a control freak. Crickey, maybe I better start running.  His Lordship has a runny nose and hasn't moved much until today, but this is Wednesday and golf day. She did try hard to make him rest, but she may as well talk to a brick wall. At least she does get some peace.  Tomato Relish was made this morning. Poo, what a stink. The higher up I was, the worse the stink. I needed out of here fast, but I could not escape, as she had her eyes on me all morning. I felt this was a punishment, but what did I do wrong? Getting away from the smell was becoming a real problem. The Mistress tells me that if I want to live with humans, then I need to understand that humans do all sorts of thi...

11 /3/25 Wow, The Mistress took me out the other day. Fancy that, she remembered me.   That cat around here had to take a back step because this was me getting some attention for a change.  We set off for Glenfalloch Gardens, where we were greeted by birds chirping and singing their songs. His Lordship could see that some walking tracks were too steep for the old girl. Thankfully, he could assist her in balancing herself and negotiating the downward slopes. We all loved the calm morning and the late arrival of sunshine. Some fantails took a liking to us. They danced around their feet and flitted here and there. She put me down on the ground to see if they would come close to me. They never took one bit of notice, and I am not amused. Hadn't they seen a Gnome before? They are tiny birds with lots of energy and personalities and are extremely busy going about their morning.  We found a cute way to make a garden display with knives, forks, and spoons. The humans ...

6/3/25 There is not much happening around here these days. The cat still gets attention, and I remain on the small table observing the goings.   She gets brushed daily, and the fur flies around, getting up everyone's nose. She even lashes out at times, presumably because there is a knot. Today, the Mistress is sure that Tabitha is missing her Mum. They talked about it, and she will surely understand this intelligent conversation.  Humans go out occasionally but generally do not go for long. They seem to prefer to stay home and save their mega pension. So this means a Gnome looks after Tabitha. Such hard work, I must say, because I usually cannot find her. Goodness knows what she gets up to in the daytime when she is not getting brushed. I have to hope that the brush stays away from me. There is nothing wrong with my hair and beard, so she better leave me alone.  The Mistress calls Tabitha each night at about 10pm, gives her some treats, and is inside for the night, o...
3 /3/25 We have arrived in Mosgiel, our house-sitting place, and the weather is beautiful for humans and Gnomes. It has been a real family weekend for His Lordship. He has seen many relatives; some he knew, and others didn't. Of course, I was left at home with Tabitha, the cat. She hasn't been around a lot; I guess it is because it is so hot here. All that long fur she has must slow her down and find a shady spot under the bushes outside. This place was like Piccadilly Station. We had his brother and his wife stay, and another brother and his wife popped in a couple of times. Now, this young lady came a cropper at a pit stop on the way down, splitting her lip and injuring her hand. The Mistress assisted with some repairs, and first aid was required. The poor lady felt self-conscious about wearing a dressing on her lip, but it was messy and needed a cover.  These brothers all missed not having the other two down here, too. One is in Australia and will be married soo...
